Birthdays have a funny way of making us stop and look back.
When I was younger, I thought success would be measured by how much I accomplished. The perfect house. The perfect career. The perfect plan.
Now, I measure life a little differently.
This morning, my oldest daughter sent me a birthday message that I'll probably keep forever. She thanked me for showing up. For helping her through life's ups and downs. For putting food on the table. For giving her sisters. For loving our family.
Reading those words reminded me that the things we do every day—the ones that often go unnoticed—are sometimes the things our children remember most.
As parents, we spend so much time wondering if we're doing enough.
Did I lose my patience today? Did I spend enough time with them? Am I working too much? Am I building the life I hoped I would?
The truth is, we'll probably never feel like we've done enough.
But today, through the eyes of my daughter, I caught a glimpse of something I don't always see.
Maybe the long shifts were worth it. Maybe the sacrifices mattered. Maybe the love we pour into our families is noticed more than we realize.
This birthday doesn't find me with everything figured out.
Our homestead is still a dream in the making. Our plans are still growing. Our future is still being written.
But today I realized something...
I already have everything that matters most.
A husband who believes in our dreams. Four beautiful daughters who make me laugh every single day. A home to come back to. Faith that keeps carrying me forward. And another year to keep building a life I'm proud of.
If the next year looks anything like this one—with a little more grace, a little more courage, and a lot more gratitude—I'd call it a pretty good year.
Happy Birthday to me. ❤️
