There is something special about this time of year.
The excitement of new beginnings is in the air as school starts back, routines begin to settle, and summer slowly starts making room for fall. Around here, that also means our homestead dreams are moving from notebook sketches to real projects in the yard.
This week we staked out the location of our very first greenhouse coop. Watching strings stretched across the ground might not seem like much to most people, but to us it represents a dream we've been praying over for months. The grass is being cleared, the ground is being leveled, and before long we'll be setting the greenhouse in place. If all goes well, our brooder box should be finished soon too.
In between all of that, life hasn't slowed down one bit.
The girls are getting ready to head back to school, backpacks are being packed, schedules are filling up, and we're trying to squeeze in those last few carefree summer moments before homework and early mornings take over again.
Meanwhile, I'm doing what I do best... coming up with approximately one million new ideas a day.
Poor Charlie. 😅
One minute I'm talking about chickens, the next I'm planning flowers, then I'm rearranging the property in my head, brainstorming new products, or dreaming about where a fire pit should go. Somehow he manages to smile, shake his head, and remind me that maybe—just maybe—we should finish one project before starting three more.
He's probably right.
One thing God has been teaching me lately is that dreams don't have to happen all at once. They grow the same way gardens do—one seed, one row, one season at a time.
So that's where we are today.
Cleaning up around the property. Pulling weeds. Making plans. Laughing at ourselves. Working after long days. Trusting God with the parts we can't control and doing our best with the parts we can.
It's not picture-perfect, and honestly, I hope it never has to be.
This little homestead isn't about pretending we've got it all together. It's about building something meaningful with our own hands, raising our girls to value hard work, creating a place where people feel welcome, and giving God the glory every step of the way.
Thank you for following along as we build Fowler Homestead, one project—and one slightly overwhelmed husband—at a time.
We're just getting started.
